“Yea, but, Have you asked?”

A few days ago, I decided to re-read a daily devotional called “The Confidence Women” by Joyce Meyer, which I bought a few years ago. Although I missed day #2, I am determined to read 1 page every day and take this moment to be In God’s presence and listen to his voice intentionally. So, this morning, I open the book in the following scripture:

“You do not have, because you do not ask.” – James 4:2

This was like a slap in my face and here’s why just a few moments before opening my devotional I was struggling to get out of bed and go to a job that may have served its purpose in my life and now feels unfulfilling. The moment I read James 4:2, I started thinking about a friend of mine and her life, and how some of the things she is living right now resonates more with how I “wish” my life could be.

When I say, “I wish my life could be”, what I mean is that, although there’s a burning desire in my life that’s asking for a MASSIVE change, I don’t see how could such a thing become possible FOR ME. Now, it got me thinking, “maybe it is not my place to figure this out, maybe that’s GOD’S, but still, I am not asking him for anything”.

I’m not asking God for alignment and transformation, I’m not asking for guidance, I’m not listening to his voice or casting all of my anxieties in him (1 peter 5:7), so what change do I want to see if I’m just here waiting for him to give me something I’m not even asking for?

If some of the things I’ve said resonate with you and there are certain things you would like to have in your life, but you just don’t see it happening, I want you to know that there’s a reason God has put that desire in you. Believe him, ASK, ASK and again, ASK him for that closeness you want to have with him, ask him for a life partner that also finds joy in him so you could both glorify our Father in heaven, ask God to bless your house, your finances, your family, your professional career, your mental and physical health.

It is true, He already knows the desires of your heart, but God wants us to say the words. He wants you to ask with crazy faith, excitement, joy, happiness…

Love,

Marlin

  1. Wow! Very instructive! I agree that we can get to a place where we are literally running our own lives and forget to lean on His promises and provisions, which are readily available.
    Thanks for this reminder.

    1. I agree 100% with you, Pastor Michael. I must add that, asking God also tells a lot about our willingness to accept whatever He has in store for us and that goes along with the way we pray. Most of the times what God grant us is not exactly what we asked for or not in the way we thought He will deliver. He either puts us on hold or give us something even beyond what we could have imagine, but that only happens when we make him part of the equation.

Thank you for sharing your story, Pastor! <3
