Reflecting on the events leading to the crucifixion of Jesus our Lord and saviour as in Luke 22 and 23. I couldn’t help but feel the love of God. A night which began with His last supper with His disciples and Jesus telling his disciples that he would no longer drink of the vine until in the Kingdom of God. Then he encouraged the self conceited Peter that though satan wants Peter, he has prayed for him that his faith would not fail.

Then came the breaking point for me! Judas! his financial secretary, who sat as his friend few hours ago, comes with a betraying kiss leading the enemy to arrest Jesus. Peter tries his antics to fight, cuts off someone’s ear but Jesus rebukes him and still performs a loving miracle. Jesus knew that no man was taking his life away rather he was laying it down willingly and will take it back again as the Father had promised.

Then comes the accusers before pilate who finding no faults tries to avoid the inevitable by deferring to Herod who had been longing to see Jesus do a miracle. But not being obliged by Jesus – miracles are not for show, returns back to Pilate as he also found no fault in this man! Wow. Pilate and Herod become friends again! Even on the way to the cross, Jesus was making peace. He was threaten even coaxed by Pilate but Jesus would not cower, his face was set like a flint- the last passover lamb must be sacrificed! He never denied himself when asked about being king. Pilate asked, what is truth? A big question!

Against justice, he was led like a sheep before the slaughter in between 2 thieves with lovely women lamenting. They beat, they cajoled, they stripped him naked, spat on him, laughed and scorned him but they didn’t know he was carrying their cross willingly. He would not judge them or hold it against them. Instead he lifts up his voice in the darkeness that covered the earth to cry “Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing” Hmm.

They thought he would hang for long on the cross or die by hanging but his time to enter the Holy of holies as the High priest of the new covenant had come. He lifted up his voice and cried “it is finished!” . The veil tore into two, for the first time we could see the inner court! The sacrifice for sin was once and forever paid. The law is ended! A new dawn has come! We can now approach the Throne of Grace boldly whether Jew or Gentile-no more dividing wall! We peace with God! Hallelujah! The song of the angels at christmas is fulfilled – peace and goodwill to men.

Why did Jesus come? Why did he have to die intentionally and willingly? Did the cross kill him?

My answer would be, it was because of his intentional, overwhelming, extravagant and endless love! He died, resurrected and is now glorified because of his love which shed abroad in our hearts!

This is why I celebrate Easter! Happy Easter to you!

      Love
      Nia and Philip

Well articulate @michael. We must remember that he was dragged to the cross and killed involuntarily. Jesus accomplished his death on the cross. He willingly laid down his life; He told Pilate no one had power over him. So, let’s rejoice and this sad day because it’s indeed a Good Friday😊
