  • September 29: Authority and Submission

In the Kingdom of God, authority and submission form a beautiful dance of love and trust. As Christ declared in Matthew 28:18, all authority in heaven and on earth belongs to Him. This truth contrasts sharply with the world’s view of authority, which often involves domination and control. As followers of Christ, we are called to submit to His lordship with humility and reverence, knowing that His authority is grounded in perfect love and wisdom.

Submission to God’s authority does not diminish us; rather, it elevates us to walk in alignment with His will and purposes. Just as Jesus submitted Himself to the Father’s will in the garden of Gethsemane, we are called to surrender our own desires and plans to God. This submission is an act of trust, acknowledging that God’s ways are higher and His plans are always for our good.

    Biblical Points:
    1. God’s Ultimate Authority
    Scripture: Matthew 28:18 (ESV)
Reflection: Just as Jesus declared all authority belongs to Him, we are called to recognize His supreme authority in our lives and live in submission to His leading.

    2. Humility in Submission
    Scripture: James 4:7 (ESV)
Reflection: Submitting to God requires humility and trust, knowing that He exalts the humble and guides the surrendered heart.

    3. Authority Rooted in Love
    Scripture: Ephesians 5:21 (ESV)
Reflection: True authority in the Kingdom is expressed through sacrificial love, where leaders serve with humility and grace.

    4. Submission to Human Authorities
    Scripture: Romans 13:1 (ESV)
Reflection: As we submit to earthly authorities, we mirror our submission to God and honor His ultimate authority in all aspects of life.

    5. The Beauty of Mutual Submission
    Scripture: Ephesians 5:22-24 (ESV)
Reflection: Within the Kingdom, mutual submission in relationships reflects Christ’s love and unity, creating a harmonious and thriving community.

    Discussion Questions:
    1. Why is submission often viewed negatively in today’s culture, and how does God’s perspective on submission differ?
    2. In what areas of your life do you struggle to submit to God’s authority, and how can you cultivate a heart of surrender?
    3. How can practicing mutual submission in your relationships reflect the love and humility of Christ to those around you?

    Memory Verse:
    Matthew 28:18 (ESV)
“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.'”

    Closing Encouragement:
As you navigate the dynamics of authority and submission in your life, remember that true greatness in the Kingdom comes through a posture of humility and obedience. Trust in God’s perfect authority, submit to His leading with joy, and find peace in knowing that His ways are always for your best.
