October 03: Serve Like a Leader

In the Kingdom of God, true leadership is found in servanthood, a concept that stands in stark contrast to the world’s definition of power and authority. Jesus, the ultimate leader, exemplified this when He said in Mark 10:45, “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (ESV). As followers of Christ, we are called to lead by serving others, just as He did.The world often teaches us that leadership is about being at the top, exerting control, and enjoying privileges. But the Kingdom of God flips this narrative upside down. Biblical leadership is about humility, sacrificial love, and putting the needs of others before our own. When we adopt a servant’s heart, we emulate Christ and lead with His authority and grace.
Biblical Points:
1. Servant Leadership:
*Scripture:* John 13:14-15 (ESV)
*Reflection:* Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, teaching us that true leadership involves humility and service.2. Greatest Among You:
*Scripture:* Matthew 23:11-12 (ESV)
*Reflection:* The greatest in God’s Kingdom is the one who serves others selflessly.3. Humility and Honor:
*Scripture:* Proverbs 15:33 (ESV)
*Reflection:* Humility precedes honor; when we lower ourselves in service, God exalts us in His time.4. Leadership Example:
*Scripture:* Philippians 2:3-4 (ESV)
*Reflection:* Consider others more significant than yourself; look not only to your interests but also to the interests of others.5. The Way of Jesus:
*Scripture:* 1 Peter 5:5-6 (ESV)
*Reflection:* Clothe yourselves with humility, for God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.Discussion Questions:
1. Why do you think servant leadership is a core principle in the Kingdom of God?
2. In what areas of your life can you practice servant leadership more intentionally?
3. How does serving others reflect the character of Christ in your daily interactions?Memory Verse:
Philippians 2:3 (ESV)
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”Closing Encouragement:
As you go about your day, remember that true greatness in God’s Kingdom is found in serving others with a humble heart. Embrace opportunities to lead through acts of love and selflessness, knowing that this is the example Christ set for us. May your leadership reflect the grace and compassion of our servant King.
