The Power For Change: Building Inner Might

The new year is moving fast and for many, the usual hustle and bustle of daily life has resumed. Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed by the weight of your plans and dreams for the year?

How do we ensure that our New Year resolutions do not become mere wishes but tangible realities? It is possible to have great plans but lack the strength to birth them. How often have you seen people who share amazing ideas and yet wallow in self-pity of unfulfilled dreams?

Proverbs 13:12 states that hope deferred makes the heart sick. This year, do you want to merely talk about your goals and dreams or are you ready to make them happen?

In Acts 1:6 when Jesus was about to ascend to heaven, the disciples asked Jesus if it was time for the Kingdom to return to Israel (which had been their dream). Instead Jesus answered them to stop waiting on times and seasons that depend on God to determine. He however gave them a powerful secret in verse 8 “But you shall receive Power (ability, efficiency and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you”. This was their game-changer – the power to deliver their dreams.

The greatest secret to your achievement this year will not be different from that given to the Apostles. It will come from your inner energy sourced from the Holy Spirit in the place of private devotion. While corporate prayer and community worship are invaluable, they’re amplified by the foundation of a strong, personal relationship with God.

Start your day in the quiet place of private devotion. Jude 20 admonishes us to build up ourselves to our highest level of faith, praying in the Holy Spirit. It’s time to stir up the dynamo inside you and create the power that will sustain the change you want to see.
