Stop Over-explaining What God Has Shown You
In 1876 – Alexander Graham Bell received the patent for the telephone. Shortly after, he offered to sell it to Western Union (the dominant communications company at the time).Western Union rejected the offer, calling the invention “an electrical toy” that had no commercial value. Within just a few years, the telephone spread rapidly, proving them spectacularly wrong.
Have you ever felt the urge to explain your God-given vision, only to be met with blank stares, criticism, dismissal or even mockery? That’s because divine vision is often invisible to others until its appointed time. These realities exist in the hearts of their inventors long before the world experienced them.
Even Jesus said to His disciples, “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth…” (John 16:12–13). Some things cannot be explained; they must be experienced.
Stop Over-Explaining
When you receive a God-given vision, resist the urge to explain it to everyone. Many won’t understand because, as Paul wrote, “the person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness” (1 Corinthians 2:14).
That doesn’t mean your family or friends are against you, it just means they can’t see what God showed you. Don’t blame them. Don’t ostracize them. Instead, do what Mary did: “Be it unto me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). Then brood over the vision in your heart until God makes it plain.
The Wisdom of Waiting
Paul himself said, “I did not confer with any man” (Galatians 1:16). He stepped away until the vision became clear. Only then did he seek fellowship and confirmation. Why? Because voices too early can distort or even crush what God is birthing in you.
Yes, you will eventually need people to help you carry out the vision. But you don’t need everyone to understand it right now. Timing matters.
Brood, Pray, and Trust
Your vision is not fragile, but it does need nurturing. Brood over it in prayer. Hide it in your heart. Trust God to bring the right people who can see what you see. And when the time is right, He will unfold it in ways you never imagined.
“For the vision awaits an appointed time… though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay.” (Habakkuk 2:3)
