Interesting topic Rebecca. I have Christian friends who see social media as the devil’s tool and so have refused to have any account. On the other hand, I know of believers who are stuck on it and using it productively for the gospel. I think it goes to remind me of the scripture in Romans 14:14 that nothing is unclean of itself but whoever regards something as unclean, then it becomes unclean to the person.

For me social media is just a space like an open hall which can be rented for any kind of event, good or bad. It depends on what you are there for. Its your responsibility to watch your space and guard your heart to hear the right things.  Thank God for the Kingdom life app which gives us a clean space to interact in godly and inspiring ways.

Just for the record, I think its arguably a positive because I imagine how much instant information I have access to through social media. It would have been difficult to be here today with good connections without it. Now we can know whats happening back home within minutes unlike in old days by post or telephone. I clean up my tabs to limit junk info, that way I benefit more. Then we don’t have to be in all of them but only the ones which profit you because too many will lead to unwarranted distractions.

Social media, like @michael, said, can be likened to a screwdriver, which can be a tool or a weapon depending on who is holding it. The different platforms serve a good purpose but to do that, people have to give up some of their data, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

Some of these platforms mine these data can often be aggressive and violate people’s lives and privacy, but some are transparent about what data they are collecting. And by the way, most of them give you the option to set the information you give away, but most users don’t bother to configure their privacy in settings. So, it’s a 50/50 situation, and the upside is that you can take control of how you utilize these platforms – for your enrichment or detriment.

i love the analogy of a screw driver! yes! you can take back control over your social media with proper privacy setting, and ad blockers.
