I often wonder why is there so much disdain towards the word -“PROSPERITY” in christian circles, i understand that in some cases we have forgotten the virtue of long suffering, and endurance’ however i am a firm believer that God wants us to prosper spiritually, and most especially financially.

I want to prosper, and as long as my motives are right, and are for the services of the kingdom there i don’t have to take a vow of poverty to be pious or prove my piety. Can someone explain to me the conundrum in the body of christ, and why people think it is strange for us to ask God for material blessings., while seeking his face?

Do i have to pretend that i don’t like money, or riches to be righteous? Do i have to wear sack cloth and ashes to prove my anointing, Doesn’t GOD bless the unbelievers how much the believers? Doesn’t the sun rise and set on the just and the unjust.

      drop your two cents.

Poverty and lack are not synonymous to true worship and consecration, neither does riches and wealth. Paul tells us that the Kingdom of God is not about food, drink and material things. In other words, the absence or presence of these make no difference for the kingdom. It is all a matter of choice. You can be rich and serve the Lord and you can choose to abase yourself for the sake of the Kingdom, it’s all you.
The question then becomes; which is better? Given the assignment on our lives as witnesses of the kingdom, prosperity is inevitable because we can’t do the things we are called to do if we are poor and without a means to do them. There are several reasons why the poor will always be among us like Jesus mentioned. Some include the lack of faith, ignorance of the word, blindness to opportunities, disability etc.
So, it’s your responsibility to make the conscious decision to appropriate material blessings promised in the word into your life.

And if you chose to go the rich way, don’t be apologetic about it 😎

I love this reply ! Sheds light! And gives a balanced perspective , yes I like that you mention that sometimes God calls us to live in abase ; depending on your calling …

This reply would be saved, on my notes , I need this published somewhere for real

I think this reply sums up my thoughts on this. We discussed it on the Kingdom concept talkshow last weekend.
The issue I see now in the church is mainly that of unbalanced diet where the message of “prosperity” is skewed to extremes. Some hate it while some abuse it. In the right context as explained here, it becomes a great tool for God’s glory. However, financial prosperity does not validate or even invalidate one’s faith.
