During my devotion this morning, I was reflecting on the story of Jacob. It occurred to me that his wrestle with God had many implications and one of the things that stood out to me is that by the time the night battle was done Jacob was alone, afraid and broken – just where God wanted him to be.

Jacob’s life would never be the same, because he was now limping (32:31). This suggests that any man or woman God blesses will possess a limp of sorts. God will create something in that person’s life that makes him despair of his own strength and lean on the Lord’s instead. Brokenness is the key to blessing.
