  • Funding the Gospel – Philanthropy, Stewardship & Giving

    Introduction

Throughout history, Kingdom movements have advanced because men and women of means stewarded their wealth for mission. Jesus’ ministry was supported by women of substance (Luke 8:3). Paul’s journeys were funded by churches and patrons. Today, Kingdom pioneers must see wealth as a tool for impact, not a trophy of success.

Generosity is not just giving money away—it is about creating sustainable systems that channel resources into Kingdom causes, lifting communities, and ensuring the gospel reaches further. Pioneers must master stewardship, philanthropy, and legacy giving.

    Biblical Foundation

    • “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” (1 Timothy 6:18)
    • “The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor.” (Proverbs 22:9)
    • “Give, and it will be given to you… For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” (Luke 6:38)
    • “But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth.” (Deuteronomy 8:18)

Biblical Example: Lydia, a successful merchant of purple cloth, opened her home to Paul and the early church (Acts 16). Her wealth created a hub for discipleship and mission.

Contemporary Example: David Green, founder of Hobby Lobby, built his business around biblical values and pledged 50% of profits to Christian missions. Through philanthropy and stewardship, his family supports Bible translation, hospitals, and global ministry efforts.

    Practice Points

      • Philanthropy with Purpose: Invest in causes that align with Kingdom priorities—evangelism, discipleship, social impact.
      • Sustainable Giving: Explore models like endowments, impact investing, or business-for-mission that fund the gospel long-term.
      • Generosity as Culture: Build generosity into your personal and organizational DNA—make giving non-negotiable.

      Interactive Reflection Prompt

        1. What does “generosity as lifestyle” look like for you in this season?
        2. Generosity Plan Exercise – Create a one-page Generosity Plan for the next year. Include:
        • A percentage goal for giving (beyond tithe).
        • One Kingdom cause or project you will consistently support.
        • One creative giving method (skills, networks, or influence, not just money).

Share one part of your plan with the group for accountability.
