Give Thanks!
| Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ Ephesians 5:20 |
Have you noticed that when people are asked to give feedback on their performance, they often start by talking about what they did not do well? They focus on their shortcomings more than what they did well. This stems from that innate drive of discontent or feeling of inadequacy that overlooks our growth journey. I love Thanksgiving because it provokes an attitude of joyful gratitude and contentment. It shifts our focus away from what we don’t have, our high-reaching goals, and our endless ambitions. Rather, it helps us appreciate what we already possess and have accomplished. It reminds us to be grateful for the simple things in life. As Scripture says, a person’s life isn’t defined by the abundance of their possessions. I once heard a story about a man who was about to take his own life because he felt hopeless. Nearby, a homeless man noticed him and asked for his clothes before he went through with it. The man suddenly realized that what he was about to throw away was something someone else desperately wanted. It was a powerful reminder that even when we feel like we lack, we still have something worth appreciating. The Bible encourages us to give thanks in all circumstances because this is what God desires from us. As we develop a habit of thanksgiving, we begin to experience a peace that surpasses human understanding. This peace guards our hearts and minds against the choking cares of this life. So today, why not make your own thanksgiving list? Let’s take a moment to thank God for the gift of life, the people around us, and the blessings we often overlook. |
