I am excited to lead this week’s Kingdom Chat. I am fascinated by the life of the prophet, Daniel, in the bible and so, we will base our discussion on one of the events that happened in Daniel’s life. In the book of Daniel 2:1, the bible tells the story of how Daniel needed a new vision to expand upon what he was diligently studying in the Holy scriptures. He was puzzled about the outcome of the tragic state of affairs of his people. Daniel was greatly disturbed in his heart about these things, and it pained him that the people of God and his community and nation were suffering great hardship. So, he sought to consult with God about the situation, and Daniel was inspired by God with creative insight on how to bring relief and deliverance to his people.

I want you to know that God wants to communicate to you the solutions to many of the problems that plague our world. You may be thinking, “I am not a spiritual person” or “I am not a prophet.” Well, you don’t have to be a bishop or prophet for God to talk to you. God can speak to whomever He wishes regardless of what you or others may think of them. It could be in the form of a burning desire to bring a change to a situation, an idea in your mind of how to do something differently, or even the desire to assemble a team of people to pursue a particular endeavor that will impact society. God is the one working in you and me in all of these to provide, preserve and protect humanity from the pain and suffering in the world.

We are so blessed to be in a relationship with the God of heaven, and He invites us into what He is doing. As the bible tells us in Amos 3:7, “Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants…” The solution to many of the world’s problems lies within the Christian believer. I urge you to pay attention to the gentle whisper of the voice of God in your mind and heart, to take seriously the streams of inner transactions that God is flooding your mind with daily. The answer to the world’s problem could be within your heart.

Have you ever felt a burning desire in your heart about a problem that you see around? What was it, and what was your idea on solving the problem?

Thank you Pst Phil for the thought provoking post. I often get a lot of these thoughts especially in the place of prayer or sometimes in my daily musing. I think the challenge is that we are expecting something very big or may be that sounds “spiritual”. But God could give you an idea how to improve an aspect of your job or department and that could lead to a breakthrough or quality improvement that will make you stand out.

I have learnt that when you feel frustrated about something, its a sign that you can do something to improve it. Like Daniel, we can turn our frustrations to creativity. While working in the Emergency department during my training, I felt frustrated with a part of the system and I set out to raise a survey which showed that about 80% of the staff were frustrated with it too. This led to a robust discussion to change the system. This made me have favour with the Clinical Director there.

The challenge I also experience is that feeling of indifference or just not believing that the little idea can bring about a big change. Sometimes we listen to discouraging voices or feeling that the idea is too big to accomplish. I believe when we prayerfully consider the thoughts that God places in our hearts, discuss with like-minded progressive believers , and take that bold first step to do them, God can use them to do exceeding abundantly, above all we ever asked or imagined.

You are so right. You know the Bible says that we must not despise humble beginnings and that can be attributed to what you said that we should not feel indifferent about the thoughts that come to us. I have always told people around me that most of their daydreams is God trying to get their attention. If you can track those thoughts further in prayer, you will see the full picture and God will communicate to you His intentions, plans and purposes. Thanks for your thoughtful response.

Thats so true. God wants us to be solution providers and proof producers not just professing Christians in the marketplace. This is the way we expand the influence of His kingdom.

@michael, this is a great example of taking initiative to innovate at work! Many people would assume that if they don’t hold a leadership title, there’s no need to bother coming up new ideas and solutions that would help their place of work. But the Kingdom way is different… well done.

I love this post @philip. I think it’s so important to yield to the Holy Spirit in identifying and implementing solutions to the problems that bother us. For me, it often doesn’t feel like a “burning desire” to do something big (although I have one or two of those). On any given day, it’s usually a little nudge from the Holy Spirit. It starts with a simple thought or idea that comes to mind, and then I sometimes forget it, and some days later it will come back to mind… and at some point I realize it’s a God idea that is here to stay and I finally act on it 😂
Like at my job, we all received a copy of a new book written by our CEO last Fall. After that, I started to hear that different pockets of people were forming groups to read it and talk about it together. Nobody invited me to join a group and I started to feel left out. Then I had an idea to start my own group. After a week or two of it just existing as an idea in my mind, I decided to do it and put together a book study plan. Then I extended the study group invitation to other minority women coworkers. That’s when I realized so many people had also felt that need, and were so happy someone took the initiative to start something and actually invite them. They have all shared testimonies of how our time together has helped them to learn more about themselves, and feel more comfortable expressing their experiences and beliefs. It’s been a space for those of us who haven’t felt heard or seen for who we are to find our voice… which is far more payoff than I expected! And as a result, I’ve since been invited into conversations with other leaders about how to increase diversity of thought in our workplace, and help ensure the company’s principles and values are actually being practiced so that people can thrive at work. And it all started with a little idea!
