No man who wars entangles himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. 2Timothy 2:4

The bible lets us know that God has given us all things freely to enjoy, so this passage is not trying to make us feel guilty for having a good time. However, we notice the repeated statement by Apostle Paul typifying the mature believer as a soldier, athlete or farmer. One characteristic is common to all these groups of people and that is discipline. Paul also made the statement that though all things are lawful but not all things are necessary (1cor 10:23). Meaning that as we grow in God, while we have the liberty enjoy all things, our senses become trained to delay immediate gratification for a future gain. No wonder he said that godliness with contentment is great gain.

There is a level for milk but strong meat is for the mature. There is a level in our Christian walk when we wait to feel like or be encouraged about praying, studying the bible, evangelizing or fellowshipping with believers. However a time comes when God expects you to grow up, discipline yourself to do this even when you don’t feel like it but we do it because it is our duty to do so. The beauty of this is that when we act this way, it becomes our way of life and we continue to do them effortlessly.
So many Christians are perpetually answering to altar calls for revival of their lives because of this issue – discipline (or the lack of it). As adults, we brush our teeth, take our bath, go to work, not necessarily because we feel like it but because we know it is necessary. I hope we can deal more on this in the subject of Godly exercise in the future.

We need to stop all these prayers for God to send the Holy Spirit afresh on us when we have Him in us waiting for us to activate the power but we don’t because of a lack of discipline. We are at war, with the systems of this world and the devil who runs it and we represent the greatest Kingdom of the most High God and His Christ. We must not get carried away in these last days. It’s my responsibility to control my body and keep it under check so I can run to win.
    Lets run to win!

Absolutely! Discipline and understanding ‘why’ what must be done will give us the required energy to press on when we don’t feel like it or not in the mood. Being deliberate is the way to stay above the systems of the world.
