October 01: Courageous Entrustment
There is a profound courage required to entrust what we value most into the hands of God. This is exemplified in the story of Moses’ mother, Jochebed. With great faith, she placed her son into a basket along the riverbank, believing that God would keep him safe. To the world, surrendering control seems weak and irresponsible. Yet, within the kingdom of God, entrusting our treasures to Him displays an unparalleled strength, underscoring the truth that His plans far surpass our understanding and abilities.Jochebed’s courageous act is a stark contrast to the world’s philosophy of control and self-reliance. When faced with Pharaoh’s decree to kill Hebrew baby boys, she chose to trust God’s protection over her own strategies. Her faith challenges us: Are we willing to place our most cherished aspects of life into God’s care, trusting His providential hand? It’s through this surrender that spiritual maturity blossoms, revealing the mighty works God does when we release control.
Entrusting all to God requires humility and dependence. Consider Hannah’s fervent prayers for a child, culminating in dedicating Samuel back to God for His divine purposes. Both stories illuminate the essence of walking by faith, not by sight — an invitation to see God’s provision in incredible ways and remain anchored in His sovereign goodness.
Biblical Points:
Trust Over Control:
Scripture: “When she could hide him no longer, she took for him a basket made of bulrushes and daubed it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child in it and placed it among the reeds by the riverbank.” — Exodus 2:3 (ESV)
Reflection: Jochebed’s act of placing Moses in the basket symbolizes a profound entrustment to God’s care. Our struggles to control circumstances are transformed by trusting God’s perfect plan, inviting His providence into our lives.God’s Vision Beyond Ours:
Scripture: “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” — Isaiah 55:9 (ESV)
Reflection: Entrusting God with our lives reflects acceptance that His ways are infinitely wiser than ours. Practically, this invites us to seek God’s guidance for decisions, big and small, knowing His vision encapsulates eternal good.Surrender Leads to Deliverance:
Scripture: “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” — Psalm 37:5 (ESV)
Reflection: Surrender positions us to experience God’s deliverance. When we commit our paths to Him, we invite His intervention, ensuring both immediate peace and eventual victory as He acts on our behalf.Reflection Questions:
1. Why is it difficult to let go of control and fully entrust certain areas of your life to God?
2. What aspect of your life is God calling you to courageously entrust to Him today?
3. How can the examples of Jochebed and Hannah inspire you to deepen your trust in God’s providence?Memory Verse:
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” — Psalm 37:5 (ESV)
Closing Encouragement and Prayer:
Precious reader, remember that what you entrust to God is safe, enveloped within His eternal care. He sees beyond the present moment, working all things together for good. In this divine strength, courage rises, enabling us to lay everything at His feet. May you find peace in God’s capable hands and rejoice in His incomprehensible plans. Let us pray: Lord, teach us to trust You fully with our lives. Help us to release control and rest in Your providence. May we witness Your faithfulness as we walk courageously in Your will. Amen.
