Now I Am Born Again, Will I Suddenly Stop Doing Those Bad Things I Was Doing?
This is an interesting question. Some people expect an immediate transformation after they believe the gospel and get disappointed when they still struggle with old habits.
Here’s an analogy to help understand this in a simple way: Think of your life as a computer system with the hardware (your body), the operating system (your spirit), and the software applications (your soul). Being born again is like changing the computer’s operating system. However, the old software and hardware may still affect the smooth functioning of the computer. You need to uninstall the old software and install new software compatible with the new operating system for the computer to work efficiently.
Similarly, in your new life, it’s a lifelong transformation process. You need to unlearn old habits and learn new ways of living. As you grow in your relationship with and understanding of God, you will be transformed to be more like Him, moving from one level of glory to another.
Salvation is an event, but discipleship is a lifelong process of taking up your cross and following Christ in your daily decisions. Embrace this journey with patience and dedication, knowing that each step brings you closer to the person God created you to be.
