Kingdom Chat #43: Six Things A Christian Should Not Suffer
Job was like many Christians who think that sickness, disease, calamity, and other evils come from God, and Satan has nothing to do with them. Some even believe that these are the heritage of believers, and those who go through them are in the perfect will of God. As Christians, we experience tests of faith, persecutions, injustices, and trials of life, but we are not required to suffer sickness, disease, or poverty to be saved and in the will of God. The tests Joseph went through in Egypt (Genesis 39-41), the sufferings that Stephen suffered by the hand of the Jews (Acts 7), and the experiences of Paul in 2 Corinthians 11 were not the same kind as sickness, disease, and the effects of sin and rebellion which Christ died for to free us from. Nevertheless, these also were caused by Satan and evil men – not by God. He was not responsible for what caused Joseph, Stephen, and Paul to suffer – God helped them go through the things heaped upon them by Satan and his agents.
God can teach us lessons from any trial, but He does not necessarily send us trials to teach us lessons. A father could use his son’s experiences, should he break the law and suffer penalties in jail, as an occasion to teach certain lessons for the betterment of the son’s future. Still, it would be a very ungodly father who would lead him into such trouble for the particular purpose of teaching those lessons he could teach otherwise. Thus it is with us – we do not need to experience sickness, disease, poverty, and accidents to learn what we should know from God. We have examples in the Word to go by – Job, Asa, Hezekiah, David, and many others. One can best glorify God by learning through these and becoming an example himself- one experiencing God’s blessings by being kept from such troubles and sufferings through obedience. Enough sinners and unbelievers are giving us examples without us going through needless sufferings. However, there are some kinds of woes Christians may be called upon to endure for the sake of theme gospel at the hand of Satan.
As followers of Christ, we can lead a victorious life. From financial prosperity, obtaining spiritual power from God to conquering bad habits, and living righteously.
Here are six things Christians should not suffer:
1. With Sin which Christ suffered to cleanse us from completely. (Matthew 1:21; 26:28; 2 Cor. 5:17-21; Rom. 1:21-32; 1 Peter 4:15; 1 Jn 1:7-9; 1 Cor. 6:9-11)
2. Sickness which Christ died to take away from men ( Isa.53; Mt. 8:16-17; Jn. 10:10; Acts 10:38; James 5:14-16; 1 Peter 2:24). Even provisions have been made to keep the Christian immune from sickness (Ps. 34:9-10; 91:1-12) and give him power to heal others (Mt. 17:20; 21:22; Mk.9:23; 11:22-24; 16:15-20; Luke 24:49).
3. Failure in business and poverty (Ps. 1:3-4; 23:1-6; 34:9-10; 37:1-8, 84:11)
4. Bad habits (Rom. 6:14-23; 8:1-13; 1 Cor. 9:9-11; 2 Cor. 5:17-21; Gal. 5:16-26; Col. 3:5-10; Titus 2:11-13)
5. Lack of spiritual power (Mt. 17:20; Mk. 9:23; 16:15-20; Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-8; 2:38-39; 1 Cor. 12)
6. Failure in Prayer (Mt. 17:20; 21:22; Mk.9:23; 11:22-24; John 14:12-15; 15:7,16, Hebrews 11:6; Jas. 1:5-8)
It is not the will of God for us to suffer any of the things named above. In the Word of God, provision has been made through the exceeding great and precious promises to give us all things which pertain to life and godliness (2 Cor. 1:20; 2 Pet. 1:3-4). Read through these Bible verses and share your findings from these scriptures. You can also post a 3-5mins video if you wish to respond by video.
Do you believe that a Christian should live free of these things mentioned here? How can Christians ensure that they do not suffer these things mentioned? What does the Bible mean by “All things that pattern to life” in 2 Peter 1:3?
