January 29: Practicing Righteousness Together

In the kingdom of God, righteousness is not a solitary pursuit but a communal journey. Worldly wisdom often champions the idea of isolated self-improvement and individual achievement, but genuine righteousness is formed within the body of Christ, through deep and intentional community. Hebrews 10:24–25 calls us to “consider how to stir up one another to love and good works,” urging us not to neglect gathering together. In a world that idolizes personal independence, the call to communal righteousness is paradoxical yet liberating.Scripture presents community as the furnace where faith is refined and righteousness is shaped. Within the context of shared lives, we find both accountability and encouragement. As iron sharpens iron (Proverbs 27:17), so does our interaction with fellow believers refine our character and deepen our dependence on God. When we practice righteousness together, we not only grow personally but also manifest God’s kingdom on earth, displaying love and good works as a collective testimony.
By embracing community, we acknowledge our insufficiency and lean into the strength of the body of Christ. It requires humility to admit that our spiritual formation is completed in relationship with others. Dependence on one another reflects our dependence on God and opens us to experience the Holy Spirit’s transformative power in new and profound ways.
