Eternal Living – What it is, How to Get it and When to Get it.
Brethren, this week, it’s my honor to lead the Kingdom Chat, and I want to share a thought that the Holy Spirit inspired in my heart this week. It’s about eternal living. Jesus admonishes us to lay hold of eternal life, but not many Christians understand the true meaning of eternal life. For most, eternal living is a mark of youthfulness and immortality, but the teachings of Jesus reveal that eternal life precludes both the life to come and the one we live now.
When to get it
Paul’s teaching commands us to lay hold of eternal life (1 Timothy 6:12), meaning that eternal life is something we can grasp now if we desire. Eternal life is always within reach if one knows how to get it. It has always been available from the world’s creation and will always be available for those who seek it.
What is it?
Eternal life is the life and nature that God possesses. It is the substance of God’s being and what makes Him immortal and alive. It is a superior kind of life – a life beyond human nature, not subject to human frailty, sickness, and diseases. It is the opposite of aging, the antidote to death, and the power of youthfulness.
Eternal life is also a state of knowledge that one has. Jesus says that eternal life is to know Him as the only true God. So, it is also a state of consciousness about the reality of Christ. See John 17:3
How to get it
To obtain eternal life, one needs to understand and believe in Christ. In other words, you need to believe in Jesus and continue to believe in Him, seeking to understand Him more through an intimate, personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. The more you know Christ, the more you are filled with life. The more conscious you become of Christ and His Kingdom, the more life you gain in yourself. Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 3:18 that we are transformed from glory to glory as we behold Him as in a mirror consistently.
So, begin to lay hold of eternal life by developing an active and dynamic relationship with Christ every day. Seek Christ and His kingdom through fellowship with the Holy Spirit, the body of Christ, and through studying His word. As you do these things, the Holy Spirit will fill your consciousness with the reality of Jesus and His Kingdom; and eternal living becomes your everyday life.
Please share below your thoughts so we can all learn from each other this week.
