Don’t Stop at the Cross: Enter the Kingdom

Happy Easter Celebration to You! Welcome to the grand finale of the Holy Week.

I don’t intend to be controversial so forgive me if today’s title might sound a little sharp. But stay with me and you’ll understand better.

Some time ago, I was invited to share a sermon during the Easter service in my local church. As I sought the Lord for what to speak on, this phrase dropped powerfully into my spirit: “Don’t Stop at the Cross.”

At first, I hesitated. I grew up singing those beautiful, soul-stirring hymns that celebrate the Cross—songs like “I will cling to the old rugged cross… and exchange it someday for a crown.” And incidentally—it was that very song the choir sang right before I preached! Then I stepped up to perhaps, spoil the fun (so to speak)

Because yes—the Cross is central to our faith.

The Cross is the altar where the Lamb of God laid down His life for the sin of the world.

It became the bridge that spans the four corners of the earth, reconciling man to God.

It’s a symbol of the Tree of Life—Jesus, the True Vine—and we, the branches, drawing life from Him.

Just as Moses lifted the serpent in the wilderness, so Jesus was lifted up, so that whosoever believes in Him may look and live.

But… was the Cross the final goal?

Did Jesus die so that we could gather annually to celebrate the Cross?

Did Jesus stop at the Cross?

Imagine if everything had ended there.

Yes, He declared, “It is finished.”

But wasn’t He also the one who taught His disciples, “If someone compels you to go one mile, go with him two”? He practiced what He preached. Jesus went the extra mile—to make us more than conquerors.

    He was the Lamb, yes.

But He was also the Son.

When Abraham offered a lamb in place of Isaac, he received his son back. God, on the other hand, offered up the true and worthy Lamb to take away the sins of the world—and in return, received Jesus back as the firstborn among many brethren. Jesus had boldly declared: “No one takes my life from me. I have the power to lay it down, and the power to take it up again!”

    Hallelujah!

The Cross was not the final destination—it was the doorway, the bridge to something greater.

When Adam and Eve fell, it wasn’t from the Cross—it was from grace, from sonship, from union with the Godhead. They lost the intimate relationship, the divine fellowship, the position of dominion.

God’s redemptive plan was never just to pay for sin—it was to restore us to that original position of intimacy, of belonging, of dominion. Now we have free access to fellowship with the Godhead. Now we could cry Abba Father and have the witness in our spirit that we belong.

So, what if Jesus had died on the Cross but never rose again?

Yes, the price for sin would’ve been paid.

    Yes, we would’ve been redeemed.

    But we wouldn’t know it.

We would’ve been freed slaves, but not sons.

We would’ve been saved from sin, but not reborn.

We would have had redemption, but not resurrection life.

    But He rose!

And in His resurrection, He made us more than conquerors.

Through the Resurrection, we were not only forgiven—we were reborn. The resurrection made us more than freed slaves, more than friends, more than mere religious worshipers of God but His real offspring. We became God’s very own seed, begotten by His Word.

We became the fulfillment of Abraham’s vision—the seed in whom all nations would be blessed. Now, in Christ, there is no more Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female. We are one body—a new creation, a new breed of beings. Born again not just to sing about Heaven—but to live as citizens of God’s Kingdom here and now.

And that’s why Jesus preached the Kingdom of God.

He wasn’t crucified for performing miracles—He was crucified for preaching another Kingdom. Even in death, He didn’t stop—He went to hell and preached the Kingdom to the captives. After His resurrection, He stayed 40 more days on earth, teaching His disciples one message: the Kingdom of God.

Abraham longed for that Kingdom. He searched for a city whose builder and maker is God. Though the land was promised to him, he wandered as a pilgrim. But when he saw Jesus’ day—he rejoiced. He saw the Seed of the woman who would crush the serpent’s head.

So if you ask today, Why did Jesus come?

    The answer is clear:

    To restore Sonship,

    To make us born again,

To enable us not just to see the Kingdom of God—but to enter it.

And so, on this glorious Easter morning, I say:

    Don’t stop at the Cross.

    Enter the Kingdom.

Take your seat at the Father’s table.

    Feast, celebrate—you’re home.

The Kingdom is no longer near; the kingdom is here!

    Welcome to the Kingdom.

    Happy Easter Sunday ☀️

It’s been an inspiring week and today’s topic caps it nicely.

The Cross is central but Sonship is the goal.

We are members of God’s family and God-kind being made one with Christ.

    Happy Easter!
