The King James Version translates the Greek word hupomeno as “patience,” but a more accurate rendering of this word would be endurance. A good way to translate this word hupomeno in modern terms is staying power or hang-in-there power.

Great word! I just read this scripture today and its amazing how strong it. If we ask believers which fruit of the spirit they like, I think many won’t go for patience or long-suffering😃. However, the secret to great faith is patience according to the scripture in James 1:2. The lack of it is why some believers expect quick breakthrough/deliverance/prosperity/ even quick faith in our times. Also some will leave the church at the slightest discipline/ provocation, delay in answer to prayer or perhaps a challenging time because they can’t endure being chastised or waiting on God’s development process. Patience is not gotten by prayer but by going through tough times successfully.

I like what you said about patience cannot be received by prayer but only by testing through challenging times. It’s something I’m continuing to cultivate in my field of working with special needs kids. It’s a gift and a virtue that takes time to cultivate and practice.

oh surely patience is a great virtue that should be developed by all believers. Lord enable me to be patient and endure every trial until you give me victory. while waiting on you i will neither be moved either be shaken but will keep my faith up to keep moving towards the victory side.

    Amen🙏

Several years ago, the LORD was explaining this scripture to me and He told me that patience is not a passive virtue, it is an active force that exerts the strength of character in our lives. And that’s the reason we are to seek it by submitting ourselves under the mighty hand of God to be tried and tested.
