Discussion 5: If Everything Disappeared, Who Would You Be?
If Everything You Owned Disappeared Tomorrow, What Part of Your Identity Would Remain?
Theme: Identity & Worth
Scripture anchor: Luke 12:15
Opening
Achievements, possessions and work can be meaningful. The danger is allowing them to become the foundation of identity. When a job ends, money decreases, a relationship changes or an achievement is no longer impressive, a person can feel as though they have lost themselves. This question invites participants to separate what they have from who they are.
Real-Life Scenario
A high-achieving young professional loses a major opportunity and suddenly feels unimportant and behind. Their friends still value them, but they struggle to believe it. What does that reveal about achievement and identity?
Let’s Talk
· What do young adults commonly used to measure their worth?
· How can ambition be healthy while still becoming dangerous to identity?
· What changes if you see your work as something you do rather than the whole definition of who you are?
· How does social media affect comparison?
· What aspects of identity remain valuable when circumstances change?
· How can faith reshape our understanding of worth?
Biblical Perspective
Luke 12:15 warns against reducing life to possessions. The passage challenges the assumption that having more automatically means being more secure or valuable.
Action 5
