Kingdom Chat Week 12: The Power of Imagination
Now faith is the certainty of things hoped for, a proof of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1 NASB)
In his book, The Principles and Power of Vision, Dr. Myles Munroe explains the importance of seeing beyond your present circumstances and having hope for what is yet to come. We have a God-given ability to imagine, yet far too many Christians are too focused on what is right in front of them to exercise this capacity. As Dr. Munroe says, “Vision is the key to life because where there’s a dream, there’s hope, and where there’s hope, there’s faith – and faith is the substance, or fulfillment, of what you are hoping for” (see Hebrews 11:1).
According to Ephesians 3:20, our God is “able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” As Christians, prayer is not always about asking for things. We can also let our imagination be a prayer. When we start to see things from God’s perspective, we start to see the end from the beginning just as God does. We can clearly see a greater future in this life and in the life to come. Even at that, we know that God is fully capable to exceed our wildest imaginations and we trust that He will lead us every step of the way.

The bible tells us that where there is no vision, the people perish. The bedrock of depression lies in hopelessness – a lack of vision or desire for the future. Being in the Medical field, I have seen people physically harm themselves or being suicidal because they just don’t imagine any future.
God says in Jeremiah 29:11 that His plan is to prosper us and to give us a future and a hope. If anyone is hopeless, when we come to God in prayer and submission, He answers by implanting a hope for a better future. This hope, the bible says, never dissapoints- it is not a mere wishful thinking, but comes with the faith to make our dreams come true. It comes with inward imaginations that has a dynamic ability/energy to activate a change in our status.
For me, this hope of a great future is what drives my daily activities and keeps me strong and focused in times of adversity knowing that, my hope’s anchor is God and He is faithful to complete everything He has started. Hallelujah!
Amen @michael ! Wow, the bedrock of depression lies in hopelessness – so true. In that place of depression we have to be willing to dream again – to get out of our own heads, put on the mind of Christ and receive the hope He has for us.
@purposefaith It’s quite fascinating that life is without meaning if we do not have a vision. It is equally intriguing to hear that in the medical field, as @michael mentioned, that people can have suicidal tendencies just because they are hopeless.
Dreaming with God is a mandatory practice and lifestyle that we all must embrace as God’s children. The scriptures you quoted capture it very well. One scripture I will like to throw in there is Proverbs 29:18, which says, “where there is no vision, the people perish.”
The only reason to get up in the morning is because there is a hope. The hope of our calling in Christ is even more important, because without a promised future redemption from our Lord, life will be hopeless.

Proverbs 29:18 is a such a powerful word! How many people are “walking dead” because they have no vision? I can testify that you are not, you are a dreamer with God!!
